Careers Research
CGS uses a range of information resources to assist students in making well informed choices. We subscribe to Unifrog which is a complete destinations platform – a one-stop-shop for students across KS3, KS4 and KS5 regardless of their interests or academic ability. It is the only place where students can compare every university course,apprenticeship and FE course in the UK as well as universities in 30 other countries across the world. This is alongside getting access to labour market information and advice on careers and subjects. Unifrog also helps students to record and evidence their key activities & competencies and prepare their CVs and personal statements alongside the teacher reference.
Students also use websites such as icould, and Career Pilot to research study and work options. Students are encouraged to use a variety of online research tools such as UCAS Progress, Unistats, and the National Apprenticeship Service websites.
Students from Year 10 to Year 13 are offered the opportunity to take the Morrisby Profile, which is one of the most useful psychometric tests for those wishing to decide on a career or higher education path. Please contact our Careers Leader for further information.
Students are also directed to a comprehensive range of printed resources and materials, via our Careers Library.
The Morrisby Profile
In addition to our career's guidance provided to students, we offer students in Year 10, 11, 12 & 13 the opportunity to undertake the Morrisby Profile careers guidance platform. This is not compulsory but is an option for any students who are unsure about their post-16 options, post-18 options or to validate current plans.
Morrisby is a career guidance tool that helps students to identify potential career paths and make informed decisions about their study options. Offering this from Year 10 can be beneficial ahead of post-16 options, however this guidance service is also available for students in year 12 & 13 to help with any post-18 options and plans.
The online series of assessments and questionnaires measures a variety of elements including aptitudes, career interests, work attitudes, talents, motivations and personality. Once the assessment is complete, students will be taken through the results with our careers adviser, David Ritchie who is Morrisby trained. This follow up will be done online with students and alongside parents should you also wish to access the results.
The assessment will be taken at home, and as it takes 100 minutes, it is important that students make this time available and will not be disturbed or distracted. The assessment includes a number of timed aptitude tests, which are tests of maximum performance and as such they will require their full concentration.
