Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Our Vision:
For everyone at CGS to enjoy, achieve and belong and for our students to be exceptionally well prepared for life
Our EDI Mission:
To broaden and enrich our inclusive environment at CGS where every individual is empowered to thrive, enjoy, achieve and have a strong sense of belonging within this vibrant community
Our values underpin everything that we do:
Aspiration Kindness Respect
Our Equality Duty
The Equality Act 2010 introduced a Public Sector Equality Duty, which requires all public bodies to have due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
Protected characteristics
The Equality Act identifies nine protected characteristics, such as age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex and sexual orientation. However, it's crucial to recognise that there are other intersecting characteristics, as well as those not explicitly mentioned, that we actively support and advocate for in our EDI work.
Equality Objectives
Schools are required to establish at least one equality objective to address any areas of inequality, or possible inequality, identified . Our equality objectives are available in our Equalities Information and Objectives Policy, available for you to download here - Policies.

Meet our EDI Team
EDI Student Leadership Team
Meet Emily Embracing and celebrating our different experiences and ideas fosters a happier, more productive, and inclusive environment—one where everyone feels safe, happy, and valued. I'm excited to be part of the EDI SSLT this year and to help champion a school culture where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported. |
Meet Sohan I’ve been part of the Chesham Grammar School Community for several years now and throughout this time I have always looked forward to playing my part in the community and helping the school. Being a member of the EDI SSLT is a great way to do so. I aim to improve my public speaking skills, communication and leadership skills in this position and promote diversity within the school during the cultural celebration days and the assemblies on various topics. |
Meet Oscar I'm excited to be part of the EDI SSLT this year. I’m committed to helping CGS grow into a place where everyone feels included, respected and able to be themselves. I’m particularly interested in supporting initiatives around inclusive curriculum and language. Being part of a diverse and accepting school community is important to me, and I look forward to working with the team to celebrate our school’s diversity and build on its strong, understanding ethos. |
Meet Pierce As a student of Chesham Grammar School for almost six years, I feel compelled to give back to the school that has shaped me. I’m delighted to have been selected as a member of the SSLT for EDI. I firmly believe that the diversity and accepting nature of CGS are key factors in creating its fantastic student environment. I look forward to promoting diversity and equality through assemblies, events, and culture days. |
