Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
Our Vision: For everyone at CGS to enjoy, achieve and belong and for our students to be exceptionally well prepared for life
Our EDI Mission: To broaden and enrich our inclusive environment at CGS where every individual is empowered to thrive, enjoy,
achieve and have a strong sense of belonging within this vibrant community
Our values underpin everything that we do:
Aspiration Kindness Respect
Our Equality Duty
The Equality Act 2010 introduced a Public Sector Equality Duty, which requires all public bodies to have due regard to the need to:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
- Foster good relations between people who share a protected characteristic and those who do not.
Protected characteristics
The Equality Act identifies nine protected characteristics, such as age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion
or belief, sex and sexual orientation. However, it's crucial to recognise that there are other intersecting characteristics, as well as those not explicitly mentioned, that we
actively support and advocate for in our EDI work.
Equality Objectives
Schools are required to establish at least one equality objective to address any areas of inequality, or possible inequality, identified . Our equality objectives are available in
our Equalities Information and Objectives Policy, available for you to download here - Policies.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Progress Update 2023/2024
Equality, Diversity and inclusion have never been mere policy goals at Chesham Grammar; they are fundamental beliefs for us. We strongly believe in integrating equality,
diversity and inclusion into all aspects of our work. We are proud to share the progress we have achieved this year - EDI Progress Update 2023/2024.

Meet our EDI Team
EDI Student Leadership Team
Meet Alice - I am so excited to improve outreach within the school. I am especially passionate about increasing levels of equality and diversity within all aspects of the school, including the curriculum. I aim to be an active and supportive member of the school community, helping to celebrate and promote our diverse school through cultural celebration days and assemblies on a variety of interesting and exciting topics. | Meet Grace - Recognising and celebrating EDI within our school and wider community is something that I believe in and am passionate about. Our differences are what gives our school, friendships, connections and experiences a depth and richness and is a very important part of our lives. I am excited to be a part of this role and will continue to celebrate and give a voice to our student body to empower and support them throughout my time in this team. | Meet Oliver - Having attended Chesham Grammar School for almost 6 years now I have frequently looked up to the members of the SSLT team and thus I am honoured to have received a position on the EDI team. EDI is something I am keen to broaden my knowledge in . I hope to be able to act as a voice for students in the lower school and develop skills in communication, public speaking and collaboration. Being able to promote diversity within the school will allow me to create an active and lasting impact on the school even after I have left. | Meet Katie - I can't express my excitement to be chosen for the EDI SSLT role for the coming year ahead. I've always been a strong believer in helping everyone achieve and get the most out of life as possible, and now through EDI, I know that goal will become a reality. I personally have always expressed an interest in increasing the understanding of different cultures and identities within a community, as only through understanding can we grow, helping our corner of the world at CGS feel like a safe environment for all those within it. | Meet Edward - I'm excited to be a part of the EDI team! EDI is a great way to make a positive contribution to the school; the importance of creating an inclusive environment in schools is increasingly recognised, and it's great to have to opportunity to help out. For example, a culture day was established last year at school, and I'm looking forward to making it even more successful this year. |
