“The only thing that you absolutely have to know, is the location of the library.” – Albert Einstein
Reading is an integral part of day-to-day life for all students at CGS. The library is a welcoming and comfortable space where students can enjoy reading and learning independently. It is a key resource for the whole school community staffed by a professional librarian.
We believe that reading for pleasure is key to supporting wellbeing, developing empathy and building our understanding of the world. We encourage students to develop a lifelong love of reading by following their interests, reading widely and across a variety of genres and forms and making new discoveries.
During lessons the Library is available to the Sixth Form for silent, independent study, and for teachers to bring classes or groups. During break and lunchtime the library is open to all students. At lunchtimes our wonderful student librarians are on-hand to make reading recommendations, issue books and keep the library tidy.
AccessIt is our library catalogue, and the central point of information about library resources. Students can log in from home to search for books, access reading lists, explore curated online resources via the themed dashboards, check their loans and make requests.
Chesham Grammar School subscribes to specialist databases including JSTOR.
Throughout the year, the library runs a variety of activities to encourage keen and reluctant readers including Get Caught Reading Week, Book Fair, National Poetry Day and World Book Day.
