Austen House Charity Day
Austen House Charity Day – By Ernie and Callum
Supporting a charity based in Scotland may seem a little strange for a school hundreds of miles away in Buckinghamshire, but we are donating to this cause because as a school community it is close to our hearts.
Last February, one of our teachers, Mr Stoddern, was involved in a near fatal accident on Ben Nevis. Had it not been for The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, a group of highly skilled and dedicated volunteers who provide essential search and rescue services in the challenging and rugged terrain of the area around Ben Nevis, Mr Stoddern would not be with us today. As a school community, we wanted to show that we are very grateful and glad that he is!
Austen House therefore organised a charity day to raise money. By supporting The Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, we are contributing to their ongoing efforts to save lives and assist those in need in remote and hazardous mountain environments. Our donation will enable them to maintain and upgrade their equipment, provide essential training for members and offer life-saving support to casualties - as they did after Mr Stoddern’s accident.
We held a mufti day as well and a bake sale on Friday 6th October and a ‘guess the number of balloons in Ms Maishman’s car’ competition. This remains open until Friday 13th October and entries can be made on ParentPay. So far, we have raised around £3,000. Thank you to everyone for your support.
