CELEBRATION OF SPORT

Celebration of sportLast night, we held our first Celebration of Sport Evening, delayed from last summer. This recognised the commitment and achievements of our students who were in years 7-10 last year and was a lovely event. Had the extreme weather in July not forced the school to close on the day it was originally scheduled to take place, the students and parents present would have heard from Mr Pontin who would have talked with immense pride about sport and PE last year. I was able to read a message from him last night and tried my best to speak on his behalf about the year 2021-22. I hope the parents who attended enjoyed the event. It is one which will most definitely be a regular feature of the CGS calendar.

GCSE PRIZEGIVING

This afternoon saw the return of our GCSE Certificate Presentation and Prizegiving which has not taken place since 2019. Those now in year 12 and their parents attended this event which recognised the achievements of our students in their GCSEs in the summer. Thank you to parents for coming and well done to the students.

PARENT TRUSTEE VACANCY

As you are aware, we have a vacancy for a parent Trustee and several parents have put themselves forward. We will therefore be running a ballot, details of which will be sent home next week. Thank you to those parents who have put themselves forward.

YEAR 11 REMINDER

Screenshot 2022 11 28 at 17.06.00I would like to remind parents with a child in year 11 that their mock results will be released via GO4Schools on Tuesday with the Parents' Evening taking place on Thursday.

CHRISTMAS FAIR

ChristmasDecember is fast approaching and next Saturday is the FoCGS Christmas Fair. The highlight of this event is always the hampers which are amazing! Packing of these is taking place on Wednesday evening. We still need more donations which can be dropped off in the foyer at any point early next week. The Fair takes place from 1-5pm on Saturday 3rd and I am looking forward to seeing many of you there. The Friends also still need someone to take on the role of Treasurer. Finally, as it is the weekend of Black Friday, remember that you can easily raise money for the school by using Amazon Smile or Easy Fundraising when doing your online shopping. This costs you absolutely nothing and raises money for the school as you spend. Thank you for your support.

FOCGS QUIZ

QuizLast Friday, I was at the FoCGS quiz which was a fantastic event. It was great to see so many parents here supporting the school and very much enjoying themselves in an atmosphere of competitive fun. Huge thanks to Pru and Caroline, Co-Chairs of the FoCGS who once again masterminded the whole event and to the parents who were also here to help. Particular thanks to Claire Hewitt who ran the pudding auction. Claire has overseen this several times before and is a stalwart of the FoCGS. Her daughters will be leaving year 13 this year so this was her last quiz. Thank you, Claire. Parents who were at the quiz will agree that the quiz master, Rob Barnes, one of our parents, did a truly superb job. Thank you, Rob. I know that lots of parents enjoyed the quiz so much that they are already looking forward to the next one!

WELL DONE AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO…

...Emma in year 13 and Olivia in year 9 who have both recently passed LAMDA exams with Distinction. Emma took Grade 7 and Olivia Grade 3. Elliot in year 7 passed Grade 3 piano with Merit. Monty in year 9 was also awarded Merit in Grade 4 piano, while Shaurav in year 8 passed Grade 2 electric guitar with Distinction. Well done to them all and to Leah in year 7 who took part in a dance competition last weekend, where she enjoyed great success, finishing 3rd in her age section, and taking a 1st, 2nd and 4th place in dances along the way.

This week, I met with Amelie, Hugh, Naomi, Caden and Sienna in year 7 and Thomas, Grace and Manjali in year 13, all of whom have recently celebrated their 12th or 18th birthday. Many happy returns to them all!

SPORT

Congratulations to the senior girls who won their National Cup football game 4-1 this week, thus progressing to round 4. Well done to all those who have represented the school this week. There have been some really good netball results in particular, with the senior A and B teams for example beating Amersham School on Wednesday. The sport and PE programme for next week can be found here.

With best wishes for a relaxing weekend,
